THE WORLD’S OLDEST LIVING OLIVE TREES ARE IN LEBANON

Lebanon is not only a country with beautiful people and amazing food. It’s also well known for its olives which produce the highest quality of olive oil you will find in the world. This is of course due to Lebanon’s fertile lands and mild climate.

According to professor Bashour from the American University of Beirut (AUB), the oldest living olive trees in the world called “The Sisters” comprising 12 trees can be found in Bchaaleh, North Lebanon. Dr. Bashour worked with Dr.Touchan from University of Arizona-Tucson to use the latest technology to estimate the age of these trees. Some of the trees are around 6,000 years old with an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level making them the oldest trees in the world. These trees are regarded as a national asset and they are on Lebanese stamps.
